The Diatribe

Who, what, where, why, how? All necessities. I'll start with the "who".

Who am I? A very existential question. To begin, I'll say that I'm, in nearly every way possible, just a very average guy that falls right in the middle of most categories. Middle class white male with an average job and repetitive, but fulfilling, life. I have a background in Computer Science and Computer Engineering, but like most, I do neither at my job. I'm a network engineer for a large self-funded leg of the U.S. Federal Government. As I said in my profile, just your average Joe.

For the most part, I'm ignorant in most facets of life. While very informed in various fields of technology and science, I usually have no clue what I'm getting into when it comes to a do-it-yourself project or every day "common sense" things such as changing the brakes on a car (I saved a bundle doing it myself). I love it when someone calls something common sense, as if I were supposed to be born with the knowledge of how to build a tool shed. As I said, I'm sometimes simply ignorant.

This brings me to the "why".

Why start a blog? For the same reason I do anything I don't have to. I'm a tinkerer. I enjoy starting a new project and seeing how it all works. Usually, I have visions of grandeur at the beginning of a project. Shortly thereafter, something doesn't go as planned and it either ends up being half what I expected, or I just give up on it and go a different direction with it. Be it a Linux server, a home theater PC, or even something as simple as a flower bed for my wife (Oh yeah, I'm married.).

I've never blogged before, and as you'll probably soon learn, I've never even written much. This will be a learning experience in itself. The most important "why" is that I hope this blog can become an avenue that I will be able to use to both ask some questions, and answer others that I've already answered on my own. I feel adulthood doesn't truly start until you've learned to make wise decisions. Until that point, I would call it adolescent adulthood. Maybe readers can give me the insight I need to make good decisions on life hack projects of my own, and maybe I could help someone make a wise decision on something as trivial as how to buy a new car. By the way, that was definitely a learning experience.

"What" and "Where" are pretty obvious. This is a blog on the internet. I guess, more specifically, a blog about some of the inner workings of my brain and the new life experiences or projects that I think may help someone. At the very least, I hope to inspire some creative thought in the comments section. "How", however, is yet to be determined. I'm sure I'll be sharing my experiences as a first time blogger.

Oh, the name of the site, almost forgot. Thought it was catchy since most of what I talk about will be nonproductive and general ramblings. Any actual productivity will more than likely be purely accidental.
